LKLEY-based building services group NG Bailey has kick-started a new focus on work for upmarket residential developments with a £13 million contract.

Many of the components required for the mechanical, electrical and public health installations at the 200 top-end apartment complex in London’s Strand will be made at the group’s purpose-designed Bradford factory near the M606 before being transported to London for assembly on site.

The apartments will go on the market for around £10 million each.

NG Bailey has started an initial design contract on the flagship development in readiness to deliver a full mechanical, electrical and public health installation in the coming weeks for St Edward Homes, a division of the Berkeley Group.

Due to its central London location, the development required an approach that would minimise transportation to and from site and storage on site as well as ensuring that work does not disrupt the surrounding area.

NG Bailey is maximising the use of its Bradford offsite manufacturing capability to deliver the ‘shell and core’ infrastructure for the apartments, town houses and penthouses. The scope of the work also includes building management and fire alarm systems.

The group’s IT services division will install and integrate bespoke security and ICT systems. Mark King, operations director, for NG Bailey’s engineering division in London, said the company had worked to reduce overall installation period through the integration of various divisional operations which would reduce the number of men on site, improving health and safety and better collaboration between trades.

“What a fantastic project to have on our books, one that we are proud to be associated with,” he said.

N G Bailey has secured the contract as it moves to increase work on high-end residential projects where more than 200 developments are planned in London alone over the next five years.

David Hurcomb, chief executive, said: “The high-end residential market is going through a period of exponential growth and the solutions we offer are perfect for these environments where developers are ‘building’ in dense City locations, with tight build time frames.”

“Our strategy to focus on the residential market comes as we look ahead to the growth driving the market, of which this is just one.”

The focus on upmarket residential schemes widens the scope of N G Bailey’s operations which provide a range of construction-related services to sectors including commercial, industrial, health, education, rail, airport ,nuclear and utility projects.
