MORE than 20 employers with vacancies took part in jobs fair hosted by Philip Davies, MP for Shipley, where nearly 1,400 people are claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance, according to the Office of National Statistics. .

Mr Davies said: “Unemployment has fallen dramatically under this Government but I want to do everything I can to get people into work. I know many people who are looking for work and who want to work and the aim of this fair was to make it easier for people to come and see what is available and I hope it will make a difference to many families."

Organisations taking part included Westfield, Bradford Council, Yorkshire Water, Barclays, Asda, Skipton Building Society , Asda, Bradford Apprentice Training Agency , Czajka Care Group , Northern Rail, Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Army Careers.

Employment Minister Esther McVey said: “I am delighted to see so many organisations coming together to promote local jobs to local people. Recent figures have showed that unemployment is at it’s lowest level since records began which is thanks to the policies we have implemented, the determination of jobseekers and the dedication of local MPs like Philip Davies who organise successful events such as the Shipley Jobs Fair.”

The event was held at Exhibition Hall, Exhibition Road, Saltaire.
