THE boss of a Shipley-based Indian restaurant chain has been nominated for a prize at the English Asian Business Awards.

Faisal Hussain, 25, who is group manager for Shimla Spice which has restaurants in Keighley and Shipley, is on the shortlist for the young achiever of the year prize, where he will battle ten other people from companies across the country.

It is not the first national award he has been nominated for after he won the top award at last year’s English Curry Awards.

The other contenders in the young achiever shortlist include Sana and Jamal Ishfag, of Ishico Lighting, which has offices in both Shipley and London.

The electrical products distributor sells items including light bulbs and LED tubes.

The English Asian Business Awards is a celebration of the commitment and hard work of those in the Asian community who have excelled in various fields.

There are a total of 19 accolades up for grabs, with other categories including the rising star award, small business of the year, new business of the year and online business of the year.

The glitzy awards ceremony will take place at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel on Friday, September 16, and it is the fifth year the ceremony has been held.

Meanwhile, Bradford has two contenders in the business of the year award.

Baker Reign Solicitors, based in City Road; Go Biz It Ltd and Lyna will vye for the title with four other companies.

Nafees Bakers Ltd, based in Lillycroft Road, Bradford, and Janan, who sell Pakistan, Indian and Asian clothing from its site in Shearbridge Road, Bradford, are looking to be named the winners in the retail business of the year category.

Regal Foods, a manufacturer of cakes and biscuits from its base in Wallis Street, Bradford, will hope to get the nod in the outstanding business of the year accolade.

Finally, Kashmir Crown Bakeries, of Worthington Street, Bradford, and has been trading for more than 50 years, has been shortlisted in the business of the year category.

Yasmin Mahmood, operations director at event organiser Oceanic Consulting, said: “Each year we see the awards grow as new businesses as well as established businesses and individuals are put forward by the public.

“Individual from across the country attend to represent themselves or their businesses, to be crowned the best in their industry and this year will be no different.

“I would also like to congratulate all of the finalists. We have some truly inspiring individuals within all the categories.”
