A man was killed in a crash in Bingley yesterday.

His car collided with a van on Otley Road, High Eldwick, near Dick Hudsons pub and Graincliffe Reservoir.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, died at the scene, said police. His identity had not been released last night although his next-of-kin are said to have been told of his death.

The crash happened at about 3.50pm and forced the closure of Otley Road between Dick Hudsons and Heights Lane.

The man’s body was removed from the scene shortly before 7.30pm. His car – an MG Rover, said police – was taken away at about 8.30pm.

The man was travelling in the direction of East Morton when the collision happened.

A police spokesman said: “There were two vehicles involved – a Volkswagen van and a Rover car.

“For whatever reason, the Rover seems to have lost control and collided with a van that was travelling in the other direction.

“The circumstances of the crash are being investigated.”

The spokesman added: “He is believed to have died instantly.”

There were two men in the van at the time of the collision, said police.

Both are believed to have been ‘walking wounded’ and went to Bradford Royal Infirmary for check-ups.

Some people in Dick Hudsons knew there had been a crash but were unaware of what exactly had happened.

One woman said the only thing she knew was that it had happened near to the reservoir.

Police re-opened Otley Road at about 9pm. Traffic had earlier flowed freely through a diversion set up following the crash.

Any witnesses to the crash, or anyone who saw the car being driven in the moments before the collision, are asked to contact West Yorkshire Police on 101.
