Firefighters have praised a teenager’s quick-thinking actions following a bathroom fire at his Shipley home.
The 16-year-old was alerted by the smoke alarm after the bathroom extractor fan caught fire and the melted plastic fell into the bath setting the bathroom alight.
White watch commander at Shipley station, Jav Khan, praised the boy’s prompt actions to shut the bathroom door containing the fire and using one of his jumpers to prevent the smoke from escaping into the rest of the semi-detached property in Fernhill Grove.
Emphasising the importance of smoke alarms, Watch commander Khan added: “Obviously he was alerted by the smoke alarm but is quick actions prevented the fire from spreading and engulfing the rest of the property.”
The incident happened at about 10.30pm last night.
