A BRADFORD fish and chip shop is hoping to wrap up a prestigious national award celebrating its healthy takeaway food.

Towngate Fisheries, in Idle, has been shortlisted in the final three of a new Healthy Eating category in the 2015 National Fish & Chip Awards.

The new accolade acknowledges businesses that excel in educating and informing their customers about healthy choices and the nutritional values of fish and chips.

Towngate will now fry off against fellow contenders Fish City in Ballynahinch, County Down, and Harbourside Fish & Chips in Plymouth, Devon, before the winner is crowned at a grand awards ceremony at The Lancaster London Hotel on January 20.

Owner Mark Drummond said: “We’ve worked hard to promote the fact that fish and chips can be a healthy meal.

“To be in the top three out of more than 10,000 fish and chip shops is brilliant, and to win would be fantastic.”

Towngate has been praised for its “lighter options” menu.
