WE'VE all been there - driving through an unfamiliar place on an important journey when the sat nav runs out of power.

Now, children at Barkerend Primary School have imagined what that situation must be like for Santa Claus on his most important night of the year.

Members of the school's songwriting club has been working on their own Christmas carol for several weeks, and pupils ended their term yesterday by singing the finished piece - The Night Santa's Sat Nav Got Stuck.

The lyrics, written by the pupils, tell of a Christmas night where the jolly gift giver's sat nav runs out of battery, leaving him with the prospect of his first late delivery of presents. At the last minute Santa and his elves come up with the ideal solution - use Rudolph's magical nose to charge the device.

Music teacher Julie Parker Wade, who helped come up with the tune for the song, said the pupils had really enjoyed the process of writing and performing their carol.

One of songwriters, Abbas Choudhury, said: "We all wrote different pieces, and the teachers helped us join them together."
