DETECTIVES are today continuing to quiz a suspect over attempted murder following an incident where a man plunged from a high window and sustained serious injuries.

A 41-year-old was arrested yesterday by Bradford detectives investigating how a man tumbled from a top floor flat window at an address in Woodview Terrace, Manningham, on Sunday evening.

Investigators believe he may have been pushed before falling around 40 feet to the ground and was left in a critical condition after landing on a concrete surface to the rear of the house, which has been converted to bedsits. This morning, his condition is now said to be 'stable'.

Police are still trying to trace another man, who they believe may be called John, who was also in the area at the time the man's injuries were sustained.

Yesterday a tent remained at the spot where the victim had hit the ground, to preserve evidence, and a wider police cordon was in place around the scene, guarded by an officer.

Mr Mubarak Khan, who runs the Woodview store on the opposite side of the road, said CID officers had called twice yesterday morning asking if he recognised photographs of a man.

The image was of a man who used the shop, understood to be the resident involved in the fall, said Mr Khan.

Another neighbour told the T&A: "We don't know what's gone off, it happened at the back of the house. Lots of different people live here so people don't really know each other."

He believed police had recovered private CCTV footage from addresses in the area which could help piece together who was in the area at the time.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Snow, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: "We are still keen to trace a man who was seen in the area at the time. We now believe he may be called John."

The man involved had sustained "life changing" injuries, including multiple fractures of the spine, internal injuries and other broken bones.

He lived alone at the flat from where he fell.

He said: "He is undergoing surgery and is in a critical condition. At this stage we don't know the prognosis."

Det Chief Insp Snow said police attended the address in Woodview Terrace, following a call from the ambulance service, which had found a man with significant injuries at the back of a terraced property.

He said: "We believe an incident has taken place within the top floor flat of the victim, which has resulted in him being pushed out of the window."

He said the victim had fallen about 40 feet. He had hit an extension before landing on the concrete patio below.

Det Chief Insp Snow said that as part of the investigation a number of witnesses had been traced which resulted in the identification of a possible suspect who may have been involved in an altercation within the flat.

"As a result of continuing inquiries, a 41-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody while inquiries continue."

Police are still keen to trace a man who may have significant information about what happened in the flat.

Anyone with information is asked to call Bradford District CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
