A NON-STOP climb in aid of charity took place in Bingley yesterday as staff pounded on a step machine in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Yorkshire Building Society was raising money for its Hour of Need campaign, which will enable Marie Curie Nurses to provide even more vital support for terminally ill people and their families across West Yorkshire and the rest of the UK.

The fundraising at the Main Street branch saw workers trying to accomplish 24,000 steps – a thousand steps for every hour in the day - on a stepper machine.

Manager Chris Barwick said: "We are all proud to be supporting Marie Curie with the Hour of Need campaign. We know Marie Curie is a charity close to the hearts of many people in our community and we hope as many people as possible will step up to the challenge and pop into the branch and sponsor us.

"Here in the Bingley branch we are also embracing Marie Curie’s annual Great Daffodil Appeal by selling the charity’s popular daffodil pins throughout March."

Lucy Herron, senior corporate account manager for Marie Curie, added: "I’d like to say thank you to all Yorkshire Building Society colleagues and customers who have donated to the Hour of Need fundraising campaign for Marie Curie so far."
