NEIGHBOURS have described witnessing a dramatic stand-off at a Bradford house last night between armed police and a man.

Up to ten police cars containing armed officers swooped on a house in Hollingwood Lane, Great Horton, just before 6.30pm, residents have told the Telegraph & Argus.

One man, who lives a few doors down from the surrounded house, said the first he knew of the drama was when he heard banging "like someone throwing a table about in the back garden."

The man, who asked not to be named, said: "Then we saw the flashing lights and realised something was going off. We looked out and could see armed police in the back garden, pointing guns at the back door. There was a stand-off . The armed officers kept moving backwards and forwards. It went on for some time. They were shouting something at the man about a gun or a weapon."

He said people passing the scene were pulling up in the street in their cars to see what was happening and police were telling them to move on.

"We stopped watching but later we saw a man being dragged into a police car. I don't know how many were in the house. The man who lives there used to be around a lot a few years ago but then he went off the map. We only saw him come back a couple of days ago and now this has happened.

"It's usually quiet round here and no trouble, the only thing we hear is the traffic."

Police have yet to divulge details of the events that unfolded.

One man, who was sat in a parked car nearby at the time, said: "What I saw was five police cars all with armed officers. A silver Mercedes A class with all windows smashed was parked opposite the house. I was in my car parked close to it. It lasted two hours or so but I had to be told to go as it wasn't safe. I came back later in the evening to see just one police car. People who live around area were just shocked and didn't know what to do."

Another man who contacted the T&A said: "Lots of police vehicles were outside a residence at the bottom of Hollingwood Lane. Most police were armed. There was a car with all its windows smashed."
