FIREFIGHTERS have issued a warning to children after rescuing two teenage girls stuck on a ledge at a quarry in Shipley.

The alarm was raised by a worried parent at about 8pm last night. One of the girls had falled onto a ledge about ten feet down and her friend had climbed down to help her, on land off Snowden Road, Wrose.

Fire crews from Idle and Shipley stations, including a technical rescue officer, set up ropes to walk both the girls down to safety.

Crew commander Matthew Wolski, of Idle station, said the girls, who were not hurt, had crossed a high wooden fence topped with barbed wire before the incident happened.

He said: "Fences are put up for a reason. With the summer holidays on the way, people need to be reminded to play safe."
