A FUN-LOVING young woman, killed in an hit-and-run crash, had been due to be chief bridesmaid at her mother's wedding, her grieving family has revealed.

Victoria Holland, known as Vicky, died in hospital, hours after she was struck by a Toyota Corolla car as she crossed the road.

Miss Holland, 28, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary after the accident, which happened at the junction of the A58 Whitehall Road and Westfield Lane in Wyke, Bradford, at 2.30am on Saturday, May 16.

Despite the efforts of medical staff, and passers by who had helped her at the accident scene, Miss Holland died from her injuries on Saturday afternoon.

Her mother, Charlotte Holland, spoke fondly about her daughter.

She said: "Vicky was a very outgoing person and friendly with it. She had a great sense of humour and was very kind and loving.

"She was just a normal 28-year-old girl who liked to have fun. She was the life and soul of any party, good at breaking the ice, liked to have a laugh and enjoy a beer.

"She was going to be the chief bridesmaid at my wedding, to Robert Morton, and she was really looking forward to it – as long as her dress was lilac, her favourite colour, and she wanted lilies as flowers which were also her favourite.

"As a family we were very close, and she was well loved. She had an awful lot of friends around the village and was very well known locally."

Miss Holland lived in Scholes, Cleckheaton.

She was born at St. Luke's Hospital in Bradford, and lived in the Great Horton area until the age of four. After her mum Charlotte separated from her father, she moved to the Liversedge area and subsequently to Scholes.

She went to RM Grylls Middle School from the ages of nine to 12 where she excelled. Her success allowed an opportunity to go to grammar school but none of her friends got the same opportunity, so she opted to go to Whitcliffe Mount School.

From school she left to work full time as a packer at Swithenbanks, and then part-time at Walshaw and Sons Confectioners.

Her interests included her Jack Russell ‘Kizzy,’ gardening, and in partying with friends.

Miss Holland was struck by a Toyota Corolla, which had been travelling towards Halifax. The driver left the scene of the accident..

A 43-year-old Dewsbury man was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been released on bail pending further investigations.
