A BRADFORD inquest into the deaths of two teenagers killed in a horror crash has been adjourned so an absent key witness can give evidence.

Ather Ayaz, 18 of Masham Place, Heaton, and Mohammed Hamza Ali, also 18 and from Toller Lane, died on November 4 last year when the red Honda Civic they were travelling in left the road and smashed through a bollard in Manningham Lane.

The driver of a silver Audi A4, Mohammed Mobeen, who had been in close proximity to the Honda at the time, was arrested and bailed as part of a police investigation into the deaths but no further action was taken.

Mr Mobeen had been asked in advance to attend today's inquest but only last week said he had to re-sit a vital law exam and asked to be excused.

Assistant Bradford coroner Oliver Longstaff said he was "wholly unimpressed" that Mr Mobeen had not sought to be excused earlier but said he was still prepared to deal with the inquest reluctantly to give the families some closure.

But Lubna Khan, representing the families, said they wanted it to be adjourned and added: "We are disappointed in Mr Mobeen's absence. We have questions and need answers. We strongly feel if he is here personally to explain what happened it would mean a lot to the family and would significantly assist in their grieving process."
