AN angry mum, who saw her young daughter flung to the ground by a speeding car, is making an official complaint about the police response following the accident.

Shamin Khan watched in horror as the car mounted the pavement and clipped her seven-year-old daughter, Porscher, knocking her to one side.

The child was rushed to hospital but fortunately escaped with minor injuries. However, she has been left terrified of going near roads.

Mrs Khan, 44, said since the accident the family had been threatened and she was frightened in her own home.

And she said they had been unable to get information from the police about what was happening with the investigation, three weeks after the accident.

Mrs Khan said: "My little girl could have been killed, but we have heard nothing from the police."

She has now received an apology from a senior officer.

Mrs Khan told how she had taken her daughter, and eight-year-old son, Treyjan, to the ice cream van, at 7pm on Friday, August 7, and were walking back to their home, in Elmfield Drive, Odsal, Bradford, when the incident happened.

She said: "We had nearly reached our house when I heard a screeching behind us. Porscher was walking just in front of me. This blue car came screeching past, went on the pavement, and the passenger wing sideswiped her and knocked her to the ground.

"I didn't have time to push her out of the way. It was a nightmare. She was laid on the ground and I phoned the emergency services straight away."

She said the car then smashed into a neighbour's 4X4, shunting it several feet along the road and writing it off, before it span onto a grass verge and the four young occupants got out and ran off.

Porscher was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary where she was treated for cuts and grazes.

But Mrs Khan said: "She was lucky. It could have been much worse. She was very shocked and three weeks later she is still having trouble sleeping."

Mrs Khan said the following day a group of people went to their house and threatened them.

She said: "We have heard nothing back. We haven't seen an officer on the street since it happened. We feel frightened and I want to know what is happening. I am writing a letter to West Yorkshire Police's complaints department."

Chief Inspector Sarah Baker, of Bradford District Police, said: "We would like to apologise for the lack of contact Mrs Khan has received regarding these matters.

"We will be fully updating her on the ongoing investigations for which four males have been arrested and bailed, and will be discussing with her any other concerns she may have.

"Victims of crime have a right to feel safe in their own homes and we hope this will give her some reassurance that police are treating these matters seriously."

l A 15-year-old Bradford youth is currently on bail on suspicion of dangerous driving. No action against the other three in the car is being taken as they were passengers.

Three men, aged 18, 20 and 31, from Bradford, are on bail on suspicion of making threats to kill.
