THOUSANDS of adults and children are expected to join in a colourful Family Learning Festival in Bradford later this month.

Two Super Saturdays are lined up as part of a fun-filled programme which will run from Saturday, October 24 to Sunday, November 1.

A noise orchestra, giant sun catchers, bubble-making and face painting are just some of the activities planned so far.

Organisers hope the event will draw in the crowds and help beat last year's visitor numbers of more than 23,000 people.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Bradford Council’s executive member for Employment, Skills and Culture, said: "The Family Learning Festival is only able to be so successful because all the partners involved work well together. It's an excellent opportunity to encourage more families to try out the great cultural assets we have in the district."

The Family Learning Festival is now in its eight year and to mark 2015 being the International Year of Light, the theme is colour and light.

Bradford Council’s Family Learning Service, Bradford Libraries and Museums & Galleries, the National Media Museum, Impressions Gallery, the National Trust’s East Riddlesden Hall and Forsters Bistro are among those involved and wanting to get families learning new skills together.

The Super Saturday events will be city centre based at the City Library, Impressions Gallery and the National Media Museum while events will also be taking place throughout the October half term at East Riddlesden Hall, National Media Museum, Cliffe Castle and in all local libraries.

Georgina Cooke, the National Media Museum’s programme developer, added: "This family learning festival we’ve a half term packed with activities ranging from drawing with light, computer coded art, and our artists-in-residence creating a spectacular light and sound show."

The Learning Co-ordinator at Impressions Gallery, Jennifer Sobol, added: "Impressions runs a year-round programme of family activities, and the Family Learning Festival is a brilliant way to welcome even more families to the gallery and highlight the fantastic offer available in Bradford."

Leaflets all about the Family Learning Festival have been printed and distributed to every primary school aged child in Bradford and will also be available, along with posters, in Council buildings including libraries.

Susan Brewster-Craig, Bradford Council's Development Officer for Early Years and Bookstart said: "Bradford Libraries are excited about the activities taking place during the Family Learning Festival. We are really looking forward to celebrating the festival district-wide with events in all our local libraries and Super Saturdays in City Library too."
