A WOMAN fought off a man who got out of a car and tried to grab her in Bradford.

Police are appealing for witnesses to what they have described as a "suspicious incident", which happened at 7pm on Monday as the 25-year-old victim was walking along Carr Bottom Road in Bankfoot.

Councillor David Green (Wibsey, Lab) described it as "frightening" and urged people with information to come forward.

Police said the woman was walking towards Manchester Road when she became aware of a dark-coloured car behind her.

Two Asian men in the vehicle started to shout at the woman, said police, before the man in the front passenger seat got out and approached her. He then grabbed the woman's arm, but she fought back and hit him before running off towards Manchester Road.

The victim then heard a screeching of tyres, but did not see the car again.

Detective Inspector Rob Worley, of Bradford District CID, said: "The victim has so far been unable to identify the type of car involved or give a detailed description of the suspects, but she was clearly shocked by what happened.

"Enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances and we would like anyone who might have seen what happened, or anyone who saw a dark-coloured car in the area to contact DC 5730 Larkin at Bradford District CID on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."

Cllr Green said: "If anybody has any information, either in the immediate area or by recognising the descriptions of the individuals, I would urge them to contact the police.

"It is a frightening experience for the victim and we need to make sure these individuals are caught as soon as possible."

Cllr Ralph Berry (Wibsey, Lab) said: "People need to cooperate with police. Any evidence is vital.

"It is a completely unacceptable incident and it is vital we get these people arrested straight away."

Cllr Alyas Karmani (Little Horton, Bradford Independent Group) said: "Fortunately incidents like this are infrequent. However, there is a growing culture of sexual harassment in public spaces across the whole of the district."
