A MAN threw a vacuum cleaner at his twin brother during a heated argument that ended with him breaking his arm, a court heard.

William Bliss, 23, became involved in a fight with his twin Dylan, who suffers from a form of Asperger's syndrome, after he found him in his bedroom without his permission.

He had pleaded guilty to a charge of causing grievous bodily harm at an earlier court hearing.

Prosecutor Nick Adlington told Bradford Crown Court that Bliss had a "volatile" relationship with his brother, sharing a home with him and their mother in Dudley Street, Bradford.

On November 26 last year, Bliss found out that his brother had been in his room, and reacted by throwing the vacuum cleaner at him, also hurling a ladder at him down some stairs.

In his rage, he then grabbed his brother by the throat and got him in a headlock.

When his brother bit him to try to release the grip, Bliss took hold of his sibling's shoulder and wrist and broke his arm.

After his brother shouted "You've broken my arm", Bliss replied: "I know. You ring mum and I'll ring an ambulance."

On his arrest, Bliss admitted to police that he and his brother did not get on, saying he had just "lost it."

Sarah-Kate McIntyre, for Bliss, said her client's bail conditions had prevented him from contacting his brother, but said that their mother was keen for him to return home and try to rebuild the relationship between the pair.

Sentencing Bliss to a two-year community order with 180 hours of unpaid work, Judge Jonathan Rose said: "Siblings fall out and fight, but there is a point where it is too much. You went way beyond sibling rivalry.

"If you use violence against towards any person, you have no idea what the outcome might be.

"You had absolutely no right to use violence against him.

"But, it was you who said to call mum and call an ambulance, and you were immediately frank about what you did.

"This was a reckless assault, but I have no doubt you didn't mean to cause harm to your brother.

"You need to build bridges with your brother. Like Cain and Abel, you are your brother's keeper.

"If you and I meet again, I will send you to prison."
