POLICE are hunting a "cowardly and callous" attacker who robbed an elderly woman in Bradford.

The 81-year-old was walking on Pasture Lane, Clayton, when a man grabbed at her green leather handbag and pushed her to the floor, before running off.

The pensioner suffered a minor hand injury and was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Her attacker is described as white, aged in his 30s, tall, and dressed in black. The incident happened at some point between 8.50pm last Sunday and 1am on Monday.

Detective Inspector Paula Bickerdyke, of Bradford CID, said: "This was a cowardly and callous attack on a clearly elderly and vulnerable woman.

"Given the victim's vulnerability she could easily have been very seriously injured, and we are appealing for information to help locate the man responsible."

She added: "The victim was understandably very distressed by the incident and we have been working with her and her family to try and work out the precise circumstances of what took place.

"I would ask anyone who saw the assault, who saw this woman walking in the Pasture Lane and Bradford Road area, or who has any information about how she attended BRI, to contact the police.

"Information can be given to Bradford CID on 101, or anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555111."
