BRADFORD'S Marie Curie Hospice bought some vital new equipment for its Motor Neurone Disease Clinic thanks to local Rotarians.

The Bradford Group of Rotary Clubs raised money to buy a shower chair, specialist hoist and an art and crafts table for bed-ridden and immobile people.

Through different sponsored events including cycles, walks and charity dinners, Rotary Clubs from across the Bradford area raised £9,000, which was presented on their behalf to hospice staff by David Phillips of Bingley Airedale rotary club.

"Our club has lost two past presidents, Christopher Binns and Robert Hayes to Motor Neurone Disease.

"Valerie Binney, a former Lord Mayor of Bradford and first Lady President of the Rotary Club of Bradford also succumbed to the disease," Mr Phillips said.

"We have had to work quickly as the life span of someone living with the disease is about 14 months after diagnosis."

Marie Curie Hospice manager Elaine Hill, said: "Thank you to all the members of the Rotary Clubs across Bradford who have contributed so generously to this extremely fantastic donation."
