YORKSHIRE Water is one of the top two companies for customer satisfaction, according to a national survey.

The Bradford-based firm has the most satisfied customers for value for money for its tap water, 82 per cent, and its sewerage service, 83 per cent. It is joint top with Dwr Cymru Welsh Water in the Consumer Council for Water’s (CCWater) annual Water Matters survey.

The survey also shows more than three-quarters of households in England and Wales believe their water company is providing value for money.

The overall satisfaction levels are now five per cent higher than in 2011.

A Yorkshire Water spokesman said: “We are delighted to be recognised for our high levels of customer satisfaction.

“Our bills are the second cheapest in England and Wales and we believe provide good value for money in terms of providing one billion litres of fresh drinking water to peoples home and collecting and treating a similar amount of waste water each and every day.

“Since privatisation in 1989, we have spent £20 billion on maintaining and improving our water infrastructure such as sewers, reservoirs, pumping stations, water pipes, boreholes, and water treatment works, which as a result means we now have a truly world-class services to offer our five millions customers in Yorkshire.

“However, we realise there is room for improvement and we will strive to respond as quickly and effectively to all customer queries we receive.”

The survey featured a total of 5,964 telephone interviews with water and sewerage bill payers across England and Wales, between September last year and January this year.

At least 200 interviews were conducted with customers of each water and sewerage company and 150 with customers of each water-only firm.

The survey also found 73 per cent of customers believe water companies care more about the quality of the service they provide than their energy suppliers, 68 per cent.

But one in eight water customers in England and Wales do not think their water bills are affordable.
