FRIENDS have paid tribute to the teenager who died in a car crash in Bradford on Tuesday - as police revealed the driver of the vehicle suffered pelvic injuries in the horror smash.

Adnan Shafiq, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Shipley Airedale Road in the city centre.

He was a passenger in a grey Seat Leon which careered into a traffic sign at about 12.15am after the driver - believed to be one of Adnan’s best friends - lost control.

Police said the driver, an 18-year-old man, suffered pelvic injuries and was still in hospital receiving treatment.

Detective Superintendent Simon Atkinson, of the police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “The circumstances of the crash are under investigation. There are a lot of technical things to look at.”

Meanwhile, about 20 bouquets of flowers have been left at the scene of the crash, and photographs of Adnan have been stuck to the metal sign post.

Friend Sameer Ahmed said: “He was a sound lad, always cracking jokes, and it was such a shock when I heard the news.

“A beautiful soul gone to waste. Rest In Peace.”

Another friend, Luqmaan Khanan, said: “He was like my brother. He used to call me Manny or Fatty sometimes.

“I’m very shocked it has happened. I feel like it’s a dream.

“My brother gone. Gone but not forgotten. I can’t believe it - it is shocking.”

Another friend, who knew Adnan from Grange Technology College in Bradford, where they were both students, but did not want to be named, said: “No-one had anything bad to say about him. He was always cracking jokes and he had a cheeky smile.

“He was a really nice, genuine guy.”

He added: “I am really down about it. It is shocking - I still cannot believe it has happened. It feels fake.

“I still hope he is going to come back.”

Alison Mander, headteacher at Grange Technology College, said: “We are aware of the tragic accident which claimed the life of a former student.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those affected.

“We will continue to do everything we can to support the family and our students at this very difficult time.”
