DID YOU know there's a Christmas movie that was filmed just twenty miles from Bradford?

A Very Yorkshire Christmas, known as A Very British Christmas in the US follows a famous American opera singer, who finds herself stranded in a sleepy Yorkshire town, after her flight to Vienna is diverted.

On the way to the closest town, Jessica Bailey, played by Rachel Shenton falls asleep and misses her stop, and when she wakes, she finds herself in picture-perfect Knaresborough.

Despite the scenic setting, a panicked Jessica discovers there's very few hotels, and all of the bed and breakfasts are full, but manages to seek refuge with the help of an enchanting widower, Andy (Mark Killeen), who happens to own Pine Falls, a holiday lodge site in the village.

Jessica, assumes it will be a quick one-night stop stopover but after a call with her agent, she discovers there aren't any flights until after Christmas. She realises she will have to spend the festive period with Andy, his daughter Katie (Isla Cook), and his mother Sandra (Michele Dotrice) in rural Yorkshire.

After the lights flicker and struggle to stay on in the lodge, Jessica soon learns that Andy’s family is struggling with money and the struggles continue as a big mining company wants to buy him out. She decides she’s going to do all she can to save the parkland and Andy's business.

Well-known spots in Knaresborough make an appearance throughout the film, including the Gallons Steps, Water Bag Bank at the bottom by the viaduct, St. John the Baptist church, Art in the Mill gallery, Number Thirteen Coffee House and Cakery, Knaresborough Castle, the market square and the rowing boat on the River Nidd, which you can rent out as they do in the film.

Knaresborough is just 22 miles from Bradford, and a 40 minute drive to the stunning village.

Other well-known Yorkshire landmarks include Pickering Station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and North York Moors National Park.

The film is directed by Steven Nesbit, and first came out in 2019. It is now available to watch on Amazon Prime and Channel 5's on demand service, My5 until January 2022. It's also set to be broadcast on Channel 5 on Christmas day.
