POLICE are appealing for information after a robbery at a Tesco Express store which led to a car chase which had to be abandoned for public safety.

Officers were called to the store in Wakefield Road in Swillington, Leeds, at 6.20pm on Wednesday to reports of a robbery.

Two white males, aged about 20, entered the store and approached the till area and threatened staff.

They made off with cash from the tills and fled in a red Skoda Octavia VRS, heading south west in the direction of Oulton and Rothwell.

The car was spotted by police in the nearby town of Rothwell and pursued towards the Stourton area of Leeds, but the pursuit had to be abandoned for public safety reasons.

Anyone who witnessed the robbery, or who has any information which could assist police in their investigation, is asked to call police on 101, quoting crime reference number 13210660672.
