Drivers faced severe delays along parts of the M62 this morning.

Huge tailbacks affected traffic on the M62 Eastbound between Junction 24 A629 (Ainley Top) and Junction 27 M621 (Gildersome). 

The average traffic speed dropped to 15 mph around 7am. 

It followed reports of an vehicle fire on the M606 Southbound from Junction 3 A6177 Rooley Lane (Staygate Roundabout) to Junction 2 Merrydale Road (Euroway Trading Estate). 

When West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service arrived at the scene, there was no fire. 

A temporary lane closure was lifted.

There is also heavy traffic on M62 Eastbound as motorists head past the roadworks around Junction 26 of the M606 (Chain Bar).

The average traffic speed around this area hit 16 mph by 7.29am. 

One lane is also closed due to construction on the M62 both ways between Junction 27 M621 (Gildersome) and Junction 26 M606 J1 (Chain Bar).
