Ramadan is a holy month where muslims fast for this month. It is the 9th month of  the islamic calender. During this month, muslims devote themselves and become closer to Allah. Muslims become more charitable and patience.

Muslims fast from dawn to sunset. This is also called sehri and iftar. These fast are around 12-16 hours long. During this time, muslims are not allowed to eat or drink.

ramadan is very sacred to muslims as this is the month the quraan was evealed to prophet mohammed (PBUH). Ramadan allows muslim to have self discipline and remember those who are less fortunate. Muslims fast during this month to commemerate the relevation of the quraan.

Sawm (fasting) is the 5 pillars of islam therefore it is obligitory on all muslim however there are a few exemption. A person who has a medical illness does not need to fast nor does a pregnant women. However, afer the pregnant women has to nmake up for the fast she has missed.
