A charity donation of almost £10,000 will help towards scalp cooling for cancer patients undergoing clinical trials and treatment.

The Bradford-based Morrisons Foundation announced it has given £9,975 to Leeds Hospitals Charity.

The funding has enabled the purchase of specialist scalp cooling equipment to provide care for clinical trial patients at Leeds Cancer Centre.

Tanya Duerden, a research sister at Leeds Cancer Centre, said: “The Paxman scalp cooler will make such a difference to our patients and staff team. We will now be able to offer scalp cooling to cancer patients who are undergoing clinical trials at the hospital's research facility whose treatment is causing alopecia and hair thinning.

“Previously, we had to borrow scalp coolers from other areas of the hospital. However, with such a great demand for scalp coolers, we were not always guaranteed the use of the equipment, which would cause huge patient anxiety.

“Now, we do not have to worry about this.

“This equipment will help make a significant difference to patient wellbeing by helping patients to retain their hair during treatment, which is such a massive part of their identity.

“As a team, we would like to thank the Morrisons Foundation for their support of our patients and staff."

The Morrisons Foundation was set up by Morrisons supermarket in 2015 and awards grants for charity projects.
