A COMMUNITY was left shocked after two people were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a huge crash in Bradford.

A grey Audi RS3 was travelling along Baldwin Lane towards Queensbury when it collided with a wall at its junction with Back Lane at around 1.20pm on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services attended the semi-rural area near Clayton Heights and the occupants of the vehicle - a 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman - were taken to hospital by road ambulance.

Pictures seen by the Telegraph & Argus show a car on the other side of a wall, an air ambulance, several police vehicles and a fire service unit at the scene.

A woman at the scene said: "It sounds like a really terrible incident."

One man added: “I heard all the emergency services. It’s very concerning.”

Another woman said: “I saw police car after police car after police car. Then the air ambulance arrived.

"I knew it was serious.”

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "We were called at 1.21pm to reports of an incident on Baldwin Lane in Bradford.

"We sent two crews, Odsal, and Fairweather Green.

"This was a road traffic collision involving one car.

"Two people were freed, and attended to by crews, before being passed to the care of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

"The crews then made the scene safe before departing at 3.06pm."

A spokesperson for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We received an emergency call at 1.20pm on Friday afternoon to report a one-vehicle collision on Back Lane, Clayton.

"A number of ambulance resources were dispatched to the scene, including two ambulances, an air ambulance and a doctor. 

"Two patients were conveyed by road to Leeds General Infirmary."

A latest statement from West Yorkshire Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury road traffic collision in Bradford.

"At about 1.20pm today (Friday), a grey Audi RS3 was travelling along Baldwin Lane towards Queensbury when it collided with a wall at its junction with Back Lane.

"Emergency services attended and the occupants of the vehicle, a 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

"The Roads Policing Unit is investigating this collision and anyone who witnessed it, or who saw the vehicle’s movements prior to it, is asked to contact them on 101, or by using the livechat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website.

"Anyone who has dash cam or CCTV footage that may assist is also asked to get in touch.

"The log reference is 0844 of 12 April."
