A BRADFORD community has spoken about their sadness at the "tragic loss of life" after a woman died in a horrific crash on a road in Clayton.

A 20-year-old Bradford woman died in hospital after the crash on Baldwin Lane and Back Lane near Clayton village just after 1pm yesterday when a car collided with a wall.

A 21-year-old Keighley man remains in hospital in a serious condition.

The Rev Kenny Brown, minister at Clayton Baptist Church, was sitting on a bench next to the junction of Baldwin Lane and Back Lane today and saying prayers for the woman and man.

“It’s indescribable,” said Rev Brown. “It’s such a tragic loss of life for a Bradford community.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of those affected, and our prayers are with them.

“It’s just happened, so the family and friends won’t be able to get their heads around what has happened.

“There is no peace and people today will be suffering so much pain and grief. It’s just horrendous.”

One Clayton woman said: “It fills my heart with sadness. It’s just so sad, really sad.

“You get up one morning and you don’t know it’s going to be your last day.”

One local resident who lives on Baldwin Lane said: “It’s a shame and awful.

“I heard the helicopter and the traffic stopped yesterday,” said the resident whose home was inside the extensive cordon.”

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police are continuing to appeal for information following a serious road traffic collision in Bradford which resulted in the death of a woman.

"At about 1.20pm on Friday, a grey Audi RS3 was travelling along Baldwin Lane towards Queensbury when it collided with a wall at its junction with Back Lane.

"The 20-year-old woman, from Bradford, was taken to hospital in a serious condition but was pronounced dead last night.

"The driver, a 21-year-old man, from Keighley, remains in a serious condition in hospital.

"Officers from the Major Collision Enquiry Team are carrying out enquiries into the incident.
