RESIDENTS have spoken of their devastation after the death of a 10-year-old girl in a tragic house fire.

The young girl died in the fire at a property on Kingsdale Drive, just off Bolton Road, Bradford, on Sunday, May 5.

The fire service was called to reports of a serious fire shortly after 1.08am.

A woman, 37, and three children, aged 11, 6, 3, managed to escape the property and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Their injuries are not life-threatening. 

A fourth child was found inside the address and sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

In the latest update, West Yorkshire Police said the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Detective Chief Inspector Zaheer Abbas of Bradford District Police said: “This is an absolutely tragic incident in which a young child has lost her life, our thoughts are with her family at this time.

“Our investigation with the fire service has deemed that the fire was not suspicious.   
 
“The family are being supported by specially trained officers, a file will now be prepared for the coroner in due course.”

The family's next door neighbour awoke at 3am to "bright lights" from police cars and fire engines outside.

She said: "I woke up at 3am to bright lights inside my front windows. Police and fire were outside. I was not sure what happened.

"My daughter was friends with the girl. They were always playing outside.

"She was a very nice good girl.

"It is so sad what has happened. Just horrible.

"I have lived here since November. They are a nice family who often say hello."

One resident said the young girl would regularly play with her daughter on the street.

"She would always say hello to me," a neighbour on Kingsdale Drive said.

"She was really friendly.

"Everyone on here is so devastated.

"We're absolutely gutted."

Another resident said: “I’ve lived here for 14 years and they have been here longer than me. It is just so sad."

In an earlier statement, a police spokesperson said: "At 1.08 this morning (5 May) police were called by the fire service to reports of a serious house fire on Kingsdale Drive, Bradford.

“A woman and three children managed to escape the property and were taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not life-threatening.

“A fourth child was found inside the address and was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

“A scene is currently in place at the address and police are working with the fire investigators to establish the exact cause of the fire.”
