A candle-lit vigil remembering those killed by the violence in Gaza was held in Centenary Square on Wednesday night.

More than 60 peace campaigners turned up to the vigil held by United 4 Palestine to highlight the ongoing conflict in the area.

Palestine Solidarity campaigner Jane Gregory said: “The people of Gaza are constantly in our thoughts.

“They are living in atrocious conditions, with no electricity, food, access to medical supplies, whilst all the time, bombs and missiles are raining down on them.

“Here in Bradford we are trying to find new ways of expressing our solidarity with the Gazan people during this crisis.

“Following on from the huge Bradford demonstration last weekend, many of us will be going down to London this Saturday.

“We must let our elected representatives know how strongly we feel about the massacre in Gaza.”

United 4 Palestine was formed last week as a response to the latest outburst of violence in the region and to highlight the ongoing troubles in Gaza.

Nafees Nazir, co-ordinator of United 4 Palestine, said: “We are lighting candles, as a symbol of light in the darkness, to show our support to the people in Gaza and get the message out to Bradford that we have got to stand up and do something.

“Too much blood has been shed already so let’s start getting some light at the end of the tunnel.”

The group consists of activists including Palestine Solidarity, the Stop The War coalition, Friends of Al-Agsa, South Asian People’s Forum and many faith groups.
