A CELEBRATION of pupils' achievements at Horsforth School was attended by a bronze medalist at this year's Sydney Olympics, writes John Baron.

Horsforth's own Jonny Clay, part of the successful British Cycling Team Pursuit, awarded prizes and certificates to pupils.

In his first address as headteacher of Horsforth School, Steve Jex, who started the job in the summer, said that he was delighted by last week's Ofsted report which labelled the school 'very good' and made assurances that everything would be done to build on that success, raise standards further and not become complacent.

He also said that the school is working with the education authority to submit a bid to the DfEE for over £500,000 for new buildings, which will include a purpose built post 16 facility with common room and specialised teaching rooms, and also allow much-needed new dining facilities for students.
