SIR - Your reader, Bob Watson, has a letter celebrating the knighthood awarded to the MP we share, Philip Davies.

Philip Davies was the MP when I was one of the councillors representing Baildon at City Hall Bradford. From time to time a piece of casework would come my way where I needed help from the MP. I always found Philip efficient and effective in dealing with casework issues, and for that he retains my thanks.

On the other hand I profoundly disagree with Davies on key national issues. Let me cite three instances: austerity economic policy 2010 onwards, Brexit, and the Rwanda “illegal asylum seekers” policy.

The first two of these policies have already proved profoundly damaging - the evidence is overwhelming. And the House of Lords is doing a splendid job in pointing up the iniquity of the third. Davies on the wrong side of history yet again!

I am delighted that the Labour Party has chosen a first rate candidate (Anna Dixon) to contest the Shipley seat as and when the genera election comes. The smart money says that the skids are under (Sir) Philip and Labour has a better than even chance of taking the seat.
