SIR - I wish to draw your and your readers’ attention to the blue plaque on the City Hall commemorating its 150th anniversary.

In my opinion there are three mistakes on it.

Firstly, as the City Hall was designed in the Venetian style, I doubt that it was inspired by Amiens Cathedral which is High Gothic.

Secondly, there is no doubt our City Hall Clock Tower was inspired by the campanile of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. It is not a direct copy, as anyone comparing the two would see that the clock face is in an entirely different position.

Thirdly, the plaque states that the extension was designed by Norman Shaw whereas it was a collaboration between the architect FEP Williams with Shaw as an advisor.

I do hope a new plaque will soon replace this one with its errors.
