REIGNING JCT600 Bradford League champions Cleckheaton maintained their 25-point lead at the top of Division One with an impressive 80-run win at New Farnley.

Despite being without regular openers Tim Jackson and Andy Gorrod, they amassed the day's highest score of 310-7 before bowling out the home side for 230.

Second-team captain Chris Dobson, opening the innings, made 44 and shared a second-wicket stand of 104 with Ian Nicholson (60) to give a sound foundation, before James Lee (67) and Mally Nicholson (64) increased the tempo during a fifth-wicket stand of 125.

Cleckheaton's huge score proved beyond New Farnley – without skipper Mark Lawson – but they gained a maximum five batting points thanks to Joe Bedford (57), Dave McCallum (54) and Rishi Limbechaya (47). Overseas leg spinner Tanzeel Altaf and Scotland's former Yorkshire seam bowler Iain Wardlaw each took four wickets.

Pudsey St Lawrence, who began the day two points behind second-placed Woodlands in third, are now six points adrift after Woodlands gained 20 points from their 67-run win at Pudsey Congs while St Lawrence had to settle for 16 from a six-wicket win at Lightcliffe.

Two bowlers took seven wickets at East Bierley, where visitors Bradford & Bingley won by 142 runs.

Bierley's left-arm spinner Luke Jarvis took 7-81 as Bingley made 258-9, with Noman Ali (74no) and skipper Phil Slater (69) their top scorers.

Then Matthew Simpson achieved his second seven-wicket haul of the season with some hostile fast bowling, taking 7-49 as an under- strength Bierley team were dismissed for 116 in only 19.4 overs. At one stage they were 29-7 before Richard Atkins (45no) and Muhammed Irshad (35) showed some resistance.

However, the four bowling points that Bierley gained enabled them to climb out of the bottom two at the expense of Morley, who lost by 104 runs at home to Hanging Heaton.

David Paynter made 54 not out against his old club and was well supported by Gary Fellows (49), David Stiff (37no), Nick Connolly and Ben Elvidge, who each made 33 in Hanging Heaton's total of 222-4.

Another player who did well against his former club was Ian Philliskirk, who scored 103 – including three sixes and 16 fours – to help Farsley beat bottom club Yeadon by eight wickets. Philliskirk shared a second-wicket stand of 192 with Barrie Frankland, who made 88 not out as Farsley passed Yeadon's total of 205-6 in 31.2 overs.

Meanwhile, there were celebrations at Windhill as Division Two's bottom club won their first match of the season at the 17th attempt.
