Running log

SIGN-UPS for this weekend's BRADFORD CITY RUNS passed a thousand on Monday morning.

At that point, 331 had entered Sunday's half-marathon, 297 the 10K, 218 the 5K and 160 the kids' mile. This is an overall record and is already double last year's total.

The Telegraph & Argus-organised group, who are sponsored in aid of the Crocus Cancer Appeal, had also reached 125.

The weather forecast is far better than the squally gales of last year but strong south-west winds are still envisaged.

Any rain might be after the races, which start at 9.15am and continue till 12.30pm. There is ample space and catering for spectators around City Park.

* The BRITISH FELL RELAYS took place around Middleton last Sunday.

The area provided great fast, grassy running, with Dallam and Howgill Harriers providing an excellent arena for spectating and post-race refreshment.

The event comprised individual short legs at the start and finish, sandwiching two long legs run in pairs.

Bingley Ladies were a magnificent second, just two minutes behind Ambleside, with Edinburgh's Hunter Bog Trotters in third.

Victoria Wilkinson ran an outstanding final leg, while Emma Clayton clocked the fastest female time of the day in 45min 9sec.

Lesley Watson and Ellie Kitchen lost some ground on the second leg before Ally Raw and Ruth Whitehead brought them back into contention.

Wharfedale and Ilkley ladies' teams were ninth and tenth respectively – with Sally Morley strong on the first leg for Ilkley and Emma Hopkinson on the last leg, catching and passing Ilkley's Jane McCarthy near the line to head her by eight seconds.

Dark Peak, from Sheffield, were men's champions ahead of Calder Valley.

Three Bradford area clubs did excellently, with Bingley finishing a fine ninth, Pudsey & Bramley tenth and Ilkley Harriers a best-ever 14th.

Bingley's team comprised Jamie Robinson on one, Rob Jebb and Jonny Brownlee on two, Andrew Jebb and Andrew Brown on three and Ian Holmes as anchor.

Holmes ran the second-fastest last leg, while Tom Adams of Ilkley was third quickest.
