Sedge boss Alan Colquhoon is settling into the hot seat in surrounding that are very familiar to him.

Colquhoon may be new to the manager’s office but he knows Clayborn very well after being a Sedge player in his late teens. He is looking forward to the rest of the season and believes the club is on the up.

He said, “I helped out a bit from New Year to the end of last season but when I was given the job I got Mark Greaves in and we’ve done the full pre-season and everything since.

“I’m enjoying it. It’s a great club with great people and it’s a friendly club, I played here when I was 16 to 17 and I’m glad to back involved. The committee is great as well and they have been patient.

“We have overhauled the playing side and we have a new squad and it has shown because it’s taken a while. But, we have a good squad now and they are a great bunch of lads.”

Colquhoon is Wakefield based and most of his managerial experience was picked up as the boss of Sedge’s Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division rivals Nostell MW.

He said, “I was at Nostell for 15 years and Mark was with Farsley and Yorkshire Amateur because he’s more Leeds based. Sedge is about as near as Nostell is for me travelling wise so it’s easy to get to.

“Some of the players I had at Nostell have joined us here and Mark has brought some in from Farsley. It took some time to get the squad assembled and the results haven’t been good but the performances have.

“I’ve seen enough to be encouraged and I know we will pick points up. We’ve not had, what we consider, our best IX out but we’re getting sorted and we brought an experienced keeper in, Sam Dobbs, and he has helped because at the start of the season we were shipping goals but that’s stopped.”
