THE calf injury has been plaguing me since the Barnsley game.

I rested it that week and then played against Sheffield United but after that it was really sore.

But I let my heart rule my head because I knew I was going to be captain at Bristol City as 'Darbs' was suspended. I'd played two games with it niggling away and thought I'd be fine.

I'd waited a long time to wear that armband and I was desperate to go out there, give 110 per cent in the role and really lead the team by example.

Unfortunately it didn't work out and I had to come off early. That broke my heart because it had been such a proud moment to be captain after playing nearly 100 games for the club.

At least the lads drawing that night eased things but it was still frustrating and I knew I wouldn't be able to make last weekend.

I had an injection last Friday and giving it a couple of days to completely rest has made a big difference. I did a lot of running on Wednesday and it felt miles better.

There's nothing worse than playing on with a little niggle and it can get you down. But that's the only one I've had with muscles.

I want to play every single game if possible but the last two seasons I've had two serious injuries.

You can get over a niggly calf. When you are out for four months at a time, they are the ones that hit you really hard.

But I've taken it on the chin missing out last week and I can't wait to move again and get out there giving my all against Doncaster.

Tomorrow's a very important game and the lads all know that. The manager was very upset with the performance at Oldham and that has hit home in the dressing room.

We know it's down to us to go out there at Valley Parade and give it our absolute all to put things right.

Our form at home has not been anywhere near as good as we want it – but as I always say, if we perform to our capabilities then we can beat anyone.
