CITY of Bradford Esprit members didn't need the luck of the Irish to win 36 medals in Dublin at their national open championships last weekend.

Leading the charge to gold were Domi Hinchliffe and Gina Webb in the girls' 14-16 years' three-metre synchro event on Saturday and they even outscored their closest male competitors!

Not content with that, Domi then won the one-metre and three-metre springboard events and the platform discipline, Gina coming runner-up each time, as well as taking a silver in the women's open platform event, despite being only 13.

George Parsonage won the five-metre platform and the three-metre springboard, while nine-year-old Jake Passmore, despite having to dive an age group up, won the one-metre and three-metre springboard.

Elite competitor Evie Webb won the one-metre springboard, defeating Plymouth's Natasha Macmanus, but was pipped for gold in the three-metre springboard.

On Sunday, it was the turn of the novice entrants, with nine-year-old Koben O'Driscoll taking gold, as did eight-year-old Abbie Hindle in what was only her third competition.

Bradford ended the championship by filling the podium in the boys' 12-13 years, Joseph Nicol taking his first gold ahead of Owen Passmore, who achieved three tens on one of his dives, and Harry Spencer.

Esprit took 23 divers, and there were notable performances from those who didn't reach the top step of the podium, such as 12-year-old Emily Field in the girls' nine to 12 years' one-metre springboard synchro.

Injury leading up to the trip, meant there was very little time for training with partner Elizabeth Powley, ten, but they only missed out on a medal by 0.12 points.

Sophie Mawson won bronzes, even though she had to dive up an age group like Jake, while Tom Blenkinsop took his first bronze in the Group D ten and 11 years' novice event, while Imogen Tomlinson won silver despite being out for four months due to a broken foot in the spring, after which she had to learn to walk again.

Rosa Scally took bronze in her first away meet, and the whole weekend's performances were gratifying for coaches Becky Lee, Grace Alsancak and diving development manager Shan Veasey .
