JAMES Meredith feels City owe the Valley Parade faithful a home win this weekend.

The Australian is as frustrated as the supporters with the poor run of results on their own patch this season.

After Gillingham's last-gasp leveller on Saturday, City have still won only twice at home in League One from nine attempts.

This weekend's clash with lowly Leyton Orient offers yet another chance to set the record straight and Meredith is determined to reward the loyalty of the crowd.

He said: "We feel like we owe it to the fans a bit. We've worked hard as a team and played well but it's just getting that win at home and giving them something to cheer about.

"If we can just get one, then I'm sure that will take the pressure off. Then people will start playing their normal game, everyone's not as tense and we'll do what we do best.

"In terms of our performances, it seems to be going well lately. We had a poor first half against Oldham but it has built up from there.

"We obviously just need to get some more wins on the board at Valley Parade."

Meredith believes that City are playing well enough to turn the corner. They have blown winning positions in the last two home games, dominating Doncaster for an hour before conceding twice and then switching off fatally in stoppage time on Saturday.

The full back said: "Usually at home, the onus is a bit more on us. You have to be a bit more attacking, in their faces and pressurising them.

"When you're away, you tend to sit back a little bit. But we don't intend to do that at all.

"You look at the Doncaster game and that was a real shame. We looked comfortable and were playing well.

"They had two shots and both sailed in – there's not a lot you can do when that happens.

"But if we continue to do the basics right and keep working hard, then we can get the result the fans want."

Meredith has started five of the last six games since winning his place back at Bristol City last month. He has been happy with his form but knows that Alan Sheehan is breathing down his neck from the bench.

He said: "I'm feeling good at the moment and that comes from playing regularly. I'm grateful for my position because there are a lot of good players in the team, especially defenders.

"It makes things a little easier when you're playing every week but you are always on your toes. We've got a good squad this year so if you aren't doing your job, someone else is capable of coming in.

"I've got my head down and want to find that consistency of good performances. Most importantly I want to come out with some wins so we can climb back up the table."
