Bob Blackburn has left his role as Bradford Park Avenue chief executive.

Gareth Roberts will succeed him as the majority shareholder at Horsfall Stadium.

In a statement, Blackburn wrote: “After eight seasons at the helm of Bradford Park Avenue, I have decided that due to my overseas business interests, it is now time to hand over the baton and retire from the board as I just cannot dedicate the time and effort needed to move the club any further forward and feel it’s the right time for someone else to take up the challenge and move the club to the next level.

"I wish to pay tribute to the dedication of the clubs directors, the volunteers who work tirelessly and of course the fans who turn up week in week out to support the club. They all individually play their own part in the running of this great club and I’m sure that before long Bradford Park Avenue will return to its former football league status.

"It’s been a real rollercoaster over the last few years with the highs and lows that football brings with it, I wish the team and the manager every success for the rest of the season and hopefully a play-off place may be achievable.

"I will continue to support the club home and away whenever I am available and have accepted the position of a vice president of the club.”

The news comes just a few weeks after finance director Kevin Hainsworth stated his intention to step down from the board.
