ADAM O'Brien is happy to continue being the Bulls' 80-minute man and reap the benefits of playing under legendary former hooker Jimmy Lowes.

O'Brien has featured in every minute of all three Championship games this season and is enjoying a rich run of form in the pivotal hooking role.

The home-grown No 9, who made his debut almost four years ago, began playing the full quota of minutes when Lowes took the reins last June.

The added responsibility does not faze 21-year-old O'Brien and, while he accepts he will need a rest at some stage, he does not see it being any time soon.

He said: "I'm really enjoying my rugby right now. We had a long pre-season and it's good to get the games under way.

"Featherstone was the third game I had played the full 80 minutes and it felt good. Jimmy pulls me in every week to tell me I'm playing and what I need to improve on.

"So far, I'm just keeping my head down and if I have to play 80 minutes every week, then that's what I'll do. I'll put my body through that and do my best for the team.

"I think I'll definitely need a rest at some point but when I do, Jimmy will tell me.

"Likewise, the conditioners might say 'Adam is showing signs of fatigue, he needs a week off'. But as far as I'm concerned, if my body can do it then I will play 80 minutes week in and week out for the team."

Being coached by one of the greatest hookers the British game has ever produced has helped O'Brien to develop his game further.

He explained: "It's allowed me to make a massive improvement. Jimmy really helped me during pre-season and taught me some new things, plus Disko (Matt Diskin) still being involved in the club also helps.

"He tips me up about little things when I see him in the corridors at Tong – but it's great to have Jimmy as my head coach with the legacy he left here as a player. He's passing that on to me and it's massive now for me to push on in my career."

O'Brien has scored three tries in as many games this season but has not set himself a target figure for 2015.

"Tries are nice for your stats but if the boys come away with the win and I have a good performance personally, I'm happy," he said.

"The wins are the most important thing because the target is to get back in Super League.

"My form is going well at the minute but that could change, so I've got to keep my head down, keep working hard and keep looking to improve every week."

The Bulls produced easily their best performance of the season so far with a thumping win at Featherstone last weekend.

"Featherstone have got quite some reputation in the Championship and are always up there in the top few places," said O'Brien.

"To go there and put 40 points on them, and for them to only score once, was a good effort from the lads.

"Our target was for them not to score, so we let ourselves down there, but we restricted them to only one try and scored seven of our own.

"We just need to push on against Hunslet now and do the same again because this is a tough league.

"It's may be a little bit slower in the Championship but the contact and the physicality is up there at Super League standard. It's still 13 on 13 smashing each other, week in and week out."

Meanwhile, Leeds Rhinos second-rower Brett Delaney is set to feature for Hunslet on dual-registration on Sunday.
