JAKE Mullaney believes the Bulls have nothing to fear in the forthcoming Super Eights as he declared: “We can beat anyone on our day.”

Jimmy Lowes’ men will play three more regular-round matches before the split, which will pit them against the bottom four Super League sides.

After destroying Hunslet on Sunday in a game where Mullaney took centre stage with a stunning four-try haul, the Australian is optimistic about the Bulls’ promotion prospects.

He said: “We’re a confident bunch and if we’re playing well then we will beat anyone.

“It doesn’t matter if they’re top of Super League or bottom of the Championship. On our day we can beat anyone.”

Mullaney had missed the Batley and Featherstone games after sustaining a freak rib injury during the Bulls’ recent golf day.

He required a painkilling injection to play at Hunslet and only made the starting line-up when Adrian Purtell pulled out with a quad problem.

Mullaney explained: “I was expecting to be on the bench on Sunday but Purts pulled up sore in training the day before, so it was in the back of my mind that I could start.

“Jimmy told me I was playing six and I was pretty happy with how it went.

“I wasn’t quite fit and I had to take a needle to play on Sunday.

“We are a bit down on troops at the moment but I said to Jimmy I’d be fine to play.

“It’s a bit embarrassing because I tore a rib cartilage at the recent golf day.

“That was frustrating after just coming back from my hamstring injury.

“It was a bit sore earlier in the week and I couldn’t play in the important game against Featherstone, so I had the injection on Sunday. Luckily it all worked out.”

Mullaney combined well with Danny Addy and it remains to be seen if their partnership will continue or if he will revert to full back.

Of his performance at the South Leeds Stadium, Mullaney added: “I just got a bit of space.

“No disrespect to Hunslet because they tried hard for the whole game but we moved the ball around well and reaped the benefits.

“Danny was very good, he kicked well, and he is great to play alongside.

“I played in the halves in my junior career and then moved to full back because I was more of a running type player.

“It’s good that I can play half-back if required but we’ve got a few halves at the club already. I’ll just play wherever I’m needed, I don’t mind.”
