IF EVER batsmen were going to cash in, you would think it would be now in what passes for high summer.

Yet that certainly was not the case at Ewart Street, where visitors Clayton were rolled over for just 22 in 15 overs in Division Two of the Foster's Halifax League.

John Jonas was the top scorer with nine as hosts Great Horton Park Chapel used only two bowlers, Hussain Syed taking 5-9 and Matthew Jordan 5-13.

Chapel then won by nine wickets in seven overs, with the whole match lasting only 22 overs.

Cullingworth lost two quick wickets but were revived by a third-wicket stand of 70 between Steve Welch (71) and Will Rankin (38) on their way to 176 as Shelf's Robert Ramsden toiled away to take 8-75.

Billy Sugden then saw Shelf home with seven wickets down with an unbeaten 61 as they made use of their extra overs after dismissing Cullingworth in 36, Graham Rankin taking 3-67.

Park Chapel now lead the way on 108 points but Cullingworth (fourth with 100) and even Clayton (fifth on 95) are still in the promotion mix.

Denholme Clough must have been thinking of victory when they had visitors Upper Hopton at 14-5. But the new boys revived to 169 on the back of Andrew Gallagher (65) and a wagging tail as a lot of the good work by Adil Hanif (4-45) and Waqas Ali (2-28) was undone.

Clough's reply flattered to deceive as Hanif (32) and Imran Aslam (22) gave them a good start before they collapsed to 110 all out.

Premier Division strugglers Queensbury made 174, Phil Sharples (32) and Ross Irving (27) boosting them from 92-7 after they were 68-1 as Jack Earle took 6-45 for Mytholmroyd.

Royd were looking good at 124-4 and very good at 173-7. Queensbury had lost their last two wickets at 173 and Royd went from 173-7 to 173-9, only for No 11 Earle to take them to victory with a single as Girdev Singh took 6-51 and Amjad Ali 3-66.

Jer Lane were 101-5 at Booth but were revived by an unbroken 149 stand between Imran Mirza (79no) and Paul Chapman (84no).

Booth were 49-3 but were seen to a five-wicket victory by partnerships of 55 between Robert (27) and Richard Laycock (66) and an unbroken 125 from Ian Sharkey (46no) and Nigel Horsfall (44no) as Mansha Khan returned 3-61 off his 15 overs.

Lane are still top on 106 points but Mytholmrloyd (103) and Booth (101) are now right on their tails.

Openers Chris Ramsden (84, including 11 fours and a six) and Greg Soames (105, 13 fours and four sixes) put on 187 as Thornton breezed their way to 278-6.

And although visitors SBCI made a good first of their reply with 211, they were still some way short as Joshua Hutchinson took 3-64 while Joe Blencowe (3-43) polished the tail off with a hat-trick.

In Division One, Jazdeev Jheeta (6-51) and Liam Dyson (3-40) bowled well in tandem for Oxenhope at Bradshaw, who were castled for 112. Oxenhope eased to a seven-wicket victory in 29 overs thanks to Dyson (35no) and Spencer Mawer (26no).

Low Moor's battle at the basement continues after hosts Sowerby St Peters rattled up 265-8, Martin Jenkins taking 3-83 in an expensive nine overs.

Danny Devine reached 30 in the reply of 119 as Gavin Hayes took 5-15, leaving the bottom four – including Low Moor – separated by only five points.
