Selby Town 0 Bradford Park Avenue 3

EVEN before the Ashes series had started, football was back tonight when Bradford Park Avenue took on Selby Town in a pre-season friendly.

It opens up a busy six weeks, with Bradford City making the short trip to Farsley Celtic and Guiseley hosting Huddersfield Town on Saturday as the area’s clubs get back into action.

Bradford’s new management team of Martin Drury, Jamie Price and player coach Danny Schofield went with separate outfield teams on the pitch for each half of their first warm-up game.

Keeper Jon Stewart, one of seven close-season signings, was the only player to play the whole game.

Of the other new recruits, defender Adam Mather, midfielders Michael Potts and Paul Marshall and striker James Walshaw all played the goalless first half. Schofield had to wait until after the break to make his Avenue debut.

Soon after the restart Avenue broke the deadlock, Paul Walker finding Chris Haworth in the area, who he was fouled as he rounded the home keeper. Richard Marshall netted from the spot.

Haworth was not to be denied and he slotted in the second after a superb through ball from Luke Dean. Adam Clayton volleyed in the third following a short corner.
