TWO of Tuesday's five warm-up games for our semi-professional clubs were shelved as rain stopped play for Bradford Park Avenue, Thackley and Farsley Celtic.

Avenue were due to travel to Ossett Albion but a heavy downpour the previous night led to that trip being cancelled.

However, Brighouse Town were able to host Frankie Bunn's Huddersfield Town under-21s side at the Dual Seal Stadium – and it was an uplifting evening for Paul Quinn and his men as they ran out 2-1 winners.

Brighouse took a first-half lead when Ernest Boafo scored from the penalty spot after James Hurtley had been fouled in the area.

Danny Facey then doubled the home side's advantage when Ash Sculley's 76th-minute corner ended up at the striker's feet.

The Terriers, who had players with first-team experience in their side, hit back four minutes from time through Flo Bojaj.

The rest of the night's news made bad reading for the area's other semi-professional clubs as Liversedge suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Goole AFC, while Eccleshill United were beaten 3-1 at Garforth Town.

Thackley and Farsley Celtic locked horns on Thursday evening but at a different venue to the one their friendly was originally scheduled for on Tuesday.

The Dennyboys were due to host the Celts earlier in the week but when the clubs rearranged the game it was held at Throstle Nest.

The lower-ranked Northern Counties East League Premier Division outfit pulled off a confidence-boosting victory as Thomas Dugdale bagged a first-half brace to earn his side a 2-0 win.

Thackley secretary Stewart Willingham said: "It was the right decision on Tuesday. From the looking-after-the-ground point of view, we had to call it off.

"We have spent £4,000 on the pitch this summer and it could have been ruined in a couple of hours.

"Farsley Celtic were very good about it and we have to thank them for hosting the rematch."
