BRADFORD Park Avenue take a break from National League North action tomorrow but there is no respite from the punishing fixture list as they travel to Salford City for an FA Cup tie.

There is so much at stake and the tie could not be more finely balanced as Bradford are from a division higher but the Ammies have home advantage. Avenue struggled against a side from a lower tier in the last round while Salford beat Curzon Ashton who are Avenue’s league counterparts.

Salford have flourished since five of the graduates from Manchester United’s ‘Class of 92’ Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs and the Neville brothers, Gary and Phil, became part owners.

The Ammies have won one promotion since then and are looking for another as they currently sit in sixth place in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

Bradford boss Martin Drury knows his side are in for a battle, he said, “We must approach this game in the same manner as any of our league games and we cannot allow ourselves to slip below the standards we have set ourselves.

“It was a difficult game at Consett (second qualifying round) and we only just pulled that game around and I don’t think Salford will be as forgiving if we’re not at our best from the first whistle.

“I have been to watch them with Danny Schofield (player-coach) while Jamie (Price, assistant manager) looked after things and took training. They are a good side and I think, like FC United and Halifax Town that they will rise through the leagues in spectacular fashion.

“They will come into the game full of confidence because of their recent run of results but so will we so it should be a very good cup tie.”

Drury is guarded about his available playing squad but he did say that a couple of players had picked up knocks last week. Some of them sat out training on Tuesday and they will be assessed for any reactions before the team is selected.
