CITY’S scouting report will advise them not to take too much notice from Walsall’s surprise upset at Swindon earlier this week.

The 2-1 loss ripped up the League One formbook as the Saddlers suffered their first defeat in six games.

But long-serving boss Dean Smith felt struggling Swindon nicked the points – so much so that he jokingly threatened to get the police involved!

Smith said: “I feel like I should get on the phone, call the police and get someone arrested for this result.

“I can’t complain about our performance, I thought we were excellent. We dominated a team who normally dominate other teams with the ball.

“They were trying to stop us at all costs because we were so far ahead and running the game.

“I was pleased with the character, we came back into it and I thought there was only going to be one winner. I would have been disappointed with a point.”

Opposite number Phil Parkinson confirmed City’s chief scout Tim Breacker had said the same from watching the game.

Parkinson said: “He backed up Dean Smith’s comments. Walsall completely dominated proceedings and conceded late on.

“But we know Walsall will play the extra man in midfield and are a possession-based team.

“They play a similar system to what we were up against at Scunthorpe, although they are a more technical team.”

Breacker wasn’t the only scout at the County Ground according to national reports. Manchester United are said to be keeping a keen eye on teenage left back Rico Henry.

Meanwhile, Walsall’s Manchester City midfielder George Evans has extended his initial one-month loan until January 9 after scoring three goals in six games.

Walsall began the season with a bang, winning six on the trot during August, and their current spot in third is the lowest they have been so far.

Chesterfield and Bury have beaten the Saddlers on their own turf and Smith is wary of City’s hot form going into tomorrow.

Smith said: “They’re on a really good run of nine (league) games unbeaten now. They’ve got some very good players so it’s going to be a really tough game.”
