BRADFORD boxer Darren Tetley made it nine wins out of nine as a professional after a knockout victory over Sylwester Walczak.

The 22-year-old welterweight saw off his more experienced opponent, who has fought more than double the amount Tetley has, in Barnsley.

However, this difference in fights cut no ice with Tetley as he struck the crucial blow in the fourth and final round.

He said: "I thought I hurt him in the first 20 seconds or so and I tried hard for the knock-out. But they say the harder you try for the knockout, the less likely that it will come.

"I could see that he was getting frustrated, so I was just trying to hurt him, and I eventually got him with a body shot in the final round and he went down."

Despite the impressive result, which sees him end the year with five wins out of five, Tetley admitted that it was not his best performance.

He confessed: "It was okay. I only had two weeks to prepare for the fight, so to finally stop him in the fourth round was great.

"Obviously it's not much notice time, so I didn't really know that much about him. But I really wanted to get another fight in before Christmas – so when my trainer asked me if I wanted to fight, I went for it."

Next up for the unbeaten pro is a fight in February that he hopes will be for a shot at a title, which would be even better if it was in Bradford.

"I'd love to fight in my home town but unfortunately we can't seem to find any venues big enough," said Tetley.

"I don't know who I'll be fighting next, I just leave that down to my manager. But fighting for a title is the next step for me after a really good 2015, winning all five of my fights.

"I'm gaining more experience and hopefully I'll get the chance to fight for a title."
