BRADFORD Park Avenue's revival from their mini slump gathered momentum in midweek when they beat FC Halifax Town in the West Riding FA County Cup in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

The quarter-final was eventful enough even before the lottery of the spot-kicks as Halifax had Sam Walker sent off just before the hour mark and the sides traded blows to end 3-3 after 90 minutes.

Avenue took an early lead through Michael Potts but Shaquille McDonald soon equalised.

The Shaymen were in front at the break after Danny Hattersley netted on the stroke of half-time. Then Avenue led in the second half after goals by Ryan Qualter and Seb Carole but Hattersley struck again two minutes into the three of time added on.

Danny Schofield, one of Avenue's four former Shaymen in their starting line-up, got the shoot-out off to a good start. But another, Jason St Juste, had the second saved by Halifax keeper Jordan Porter.

Avenue keeper Jon Stewart also kept one out but still needed Carole to score after Massiah McDonald struck the post.

The Shaymen would have won it had Adam Dennison netted their fifth but he hit the crossbar, meaning it was sudden death.

Craig King fired against the bar with Avenue's sixth but Luke Dean and Qualter both netted before Halifax's Jack Bradley sent his spot-kick, the 16th, too high.

Avenue will have home advantage over Evo-Stik League Division One North outfit Ossett Albion in the semi-finals.

The cup win over the Shaymen came four days after Avenue returned to winning ways in National North with a fine 1-0 victory at Gainsborough Trinity after a run of three consecutive defeats.
