Evo-Stik Division One North: Burscough 0 Farsley Celtic 0

THERE was no 13th win on the bounce for Farsley Celtic but the club of the month curse didn’t haunt them as they kept their unbeaten run going at promotion-chasing Burscough.

The stalemate was a frustration to both clubs as Saturday was an ideal opportunity for them to make a significant move up the table.

With eight of the 11 scheduled games postponed due to the excessive wet weather, the chance was there for the home side to consolidate their place in the top five or for Farsley to close in on the play-off places.

The goalless draw means that it is status quo, with Burscough retaining fifth while Farsley moved up one place to seventh but stay four points outside the play-off zone.

Celts boss Neil Parsley is remaining upbeat, however, despite the end of his side’s unprecedented run of straight victories in all competitions.

He said: “We feel that although it wasn’t the win we wanted, it was a good draw against a top side and we remain unbeaten in 13 games.

“Some of the players said that it felt like a defeat when they got back into the dressing room but I think that’s just a reaction because we’d won 12 on the spin.

"It was a clean sheet and, in two away games against promotion-chasing rivals, we’ve taken four points, so I think that’s very positive.”

Farsley had hammered second-placed Northwich Victoria the previous Saturday and, under normal circumstances, would have looked at a point from Burscough as another good result.

In truth, it was a fair result after a close game in which there were few chances.

The home side went route one to fashion an early chance as Liam Caddick got on the end of a Calvin Hare goal kick.

That first opening didn’t trouble Farsley keeper Tom Taylor but the shot-stopper was forced to make a save later in the half.

Taylor was alert and agile as he got his feet to the ball to deny Michael Monaghan.

The visitors did have chances, and one fell to Aiden Savory after Adam Clayton had headed a free-kick back across the area but the striker fired wide.

Caddick and Monaghan were always on the hunt for the home side but they had no joy.

Parsley added: “There were chances. I think we had three good ones and they had the same amount but neither side took them, hence the scoreline.

"It wasn’t our most fluent performance going forward but that happens.

"What we will take from this is a good point and another clean sheet.”
